Sons of Noel & Adrian - Sons of Noel & Adrian

Op verzoek van de artiest in het Engels.
For those of you who weren’t convinced by my last review (Laish Quartet), here yet another marvel from the Brighton scene. Structurally rooted in fragments of British folk, they seem to have extracted musical sentences and gave them an active musical life that lives beyond their powers. At times the songs detach from folk turning into modern classical dissonants, only to arrive repeatedly at a Philip Glass like type of minimalism in rich arrangements, maintaining an unsurpassed degree of vertical dynamics. Overlying are some unsettling, whirling vocals that contain distant vibrating echoes from Antony Hegarty in a very earthly way. Their songs are not always readily accessible, especially since most of them develop organically as they are performed, moving towards a consistent current. Within the stratigraphy seemingly unrelated lines of melody slowly convene in remarkable harmonies, a continuous growth that appears to have no end. Then they get into your circulation and soon you are breathing with the music. Taken together it should be clear we´re dealing with far from conventional folk. Inventive use of sounds and musical instruments, pumping rhythms, brass are calling upon you as emerging remnants of a suppressed past. Sons of Noel and Adrian embody a beautiful strangeness that comes in strong and appeals to your deepest emotions. It´s ethereal in the gloomy balance of its backlit darkness.
